There’s something undeniably magical about stripping a wedding back to its core—the love between two people and the commitments they make to one another. Jess and Josh reminded us of this magic when they chose to elope in the stunning Penrose State Forest.
It was a day filled with intimacy, simplicity, and deep meaning. With only their two beautiful daughters by their side, Jess and Josh exchanged heartfelt vows amidst the towering trees. There was no crowd, no noise—just the sound of the wind in the leaves and the whispers of their promises to one another.
To make the day even more special, we curated a deeply meaningful handfasting ceremony for them, symbolising their sacred union. The handfasting cords, created by the incredible Kaity from KS Creative, were a beautiful addition. The ritual itself was an emotional and symbolic moment, as Jess and Josh’s hands were bound together, representing the intertwining of their lives and their love. It was such an honour to facilitate this tradition for them, creating a memory they’ll carry forever.
The ceremony was also made even more breathtaking by the incredible florals designed by Bec from Porter and Hudson. Her arrangements blended effortlessly with the natural surroundings, adding an earthy, romantic touch that perfectly matched Jess and Josh’s vision for their day.
Mitch and I had the honour of being both their photographers and their witnesses—a role that always feels incredibly special. To stand beside a couple as they pledge their love in such an intimate setting is a privilege we don’t take lightly. It was a moment of stillness and connection, where every glance and every word carried weight and meaning.
Jess and Josh’s elopement is a perfect example of how you can do things differently. Weddings don’t have to be big or elaborate to be beautiful. You don’t have to follow traditions or invite hundreds of guests. You don’t need a grand venue or a packed dance floor.
